Supplements & Negotiation

Supplement Approval

Confirmation from an insurance carrier that additional line items or amounts submitted in a supplement request have been accepted and will be paid.

What Is Supplement Approval

Supplement approval is the carrier's formal acceptance of additional line items or increased amounts beyond the original claim estimate. Once approved, the carrier issues a supplemental payment covering the agreed-upon additions.

Approval Process

After receiving a supplement request, the carrier may approve it outright, request additional documentation, or schedule a reinspection. The adjuster reviews the new line items against the policy coverage and the documented damage. Clear documentation accelerates the approval process.

Partial Approvals

Carriers sometimes approve part of a supplement and deny the rest. When this happens, review the denial reasons for each rejected item. Items denied for insufficient documentation can often be resubmitted with stronger evidence. Items denied for coverage reasons may require a different approach.

Frequently asked questions

Supplement approval times vary by carrier and state. Most carriers process supplements within 7 to 30 business days. Complex supplements with many line items or significant dollar amounts may take longer due to reinspection requirements.

After approval, the carrier issues a supplemental payment to the policyholder (or mortgage company if applicable). The contractor can then proceed with the additional work covered by the supplement.
