What each number means

Replacement Cost Value (RCV)

The full cost to replace the damaged property with a new equivalent at today's prices. This is the starting point for every insurance claim calculation. The carrier determines this number on the estimate. Learn more about RCV

Actual Cash Value (ACV)

The replacement cost minus depreciation. This is what the carrier pays upfront before repairs are completed. It reflects the current value of the item accounting for wear and age. Learn more about ACV

Recoverable Depreciation

The depreciation amount the policyholder can recover after completing repairs and submitting documentation. On a replacement cost policy, the carrier releases this amount once the work is done and invoices are provided. Learn more about recoverable depreciation

Deductible

The amount the policyholder is responsible for before insurance coverage applies. The deductible is subtracted from the ACV payment (first check) and from the total payout. Learn more about deductibles

First Check vs. Total After Repairs

The first check is the ACV payment minus the deductible. It is what the policyholder receives before any work begins. The total after repairs is the full replacement cost minus the deductible. The difference between these two amounts is the recoverable depreciation.
