Unlike pre-formed products that come in standard sizes and profiles, coil stock allows the installer to cut and bend pieces to the exact dimensions and angles needed for each specific application. A roofer with a brake and a roll of coil stock can fabricate step flashing, custom counter flashing, fascia wraps, and trim pieces that fit perfectly.
On insurance estimates, custom-fabricated aluminum pieces are a legitimate expense that should be captured.
Common Applications
Aluminum coil stock is used to fabricate fascia wraps (covering wood fascia boards with painted aluminum), soffit panels, custom flashing profiles at unique roof intersections, gutter end caps, and decorative trim. The material is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, available in pre-painted colors, and easy to work with standard sheet metal tools. It does not rust like steel and is less expensive than copper, making it the most practical choice for custom fabrication work.

Estimating Custom Fabrication
