The company produces shingles at plants across the U.S. and offers product lines from economy 3-tab through premium designer profiles. The Landmark series is the core of their architectural lineup and competes directly with GAF Timberline HDZ and Owens Corning Duration. CertainTeed is known for an extensive color palette and their MAX DEF color technology on the Landmark PRO and above, which creates enhanced depth and visual contrast across the shingle surface. The company also operates a tiered contractor certification program with SELECT ShingleMaster at the top.

Key Product Lines

The Landmark is CertainTeed's standard architectural shingle with a 110 mph wind warranty and a limited lifetime manufacturer warranty. The Landmark PRO upgrades the wind warranty to 130 mph, adds MAX DEF color technology, and includes StreakFighter algae-resistant granules. The Landmark IR adds Class 4 impact resistance (UL 2218) for hail-prone markets. CertainTeed also still produces the XT 25, their 3-tab product, for budget and repair applications. At the premium tier, the Grand Manor is a luxury shingle with a thick, hand-crafted appearance and the highest weight per square in CertainTeed's lineup. Presidential Shake replicates cedar shake, and Carriage House provides a European cottage aesthetic. Each premium product carries significant weight and cost premiums over the Landmark line.

Warranty and Contractor Program

CertainTeed offers a tiered warranty system tied to contractor certification and the scope of CertainTeed products used on the roof. The base limited lifetime warranty covers the shingle material against manufacturing defects. Upgrading to a SureStart warranty adds labor coverage for the initial years. The strongest warranty, the 5-Star SureStart Plus, is available only through SELECT ShingleMaster contractors and requires that the entire roofing system (underlayment, starter, hip and ridge, ventilation) be CertainTeed products. This full-system approach locks the homeowner into one manufacturer's ecosystem but provides the broadest coverage. All CertainTeed limited lifetime warranties include prorated periods after the initial coverage window.

CertainTeed Landmark shingles are among the most commonly encountered products on residential roofs. During a claim inspection, differentiating between Landmark, Landmark PRO, and Landmark IR is necessary for accurate Xactimate pricing, as each has a different replacement cost. The product name is typically printed on the shingle's back or on packaging remnants in the attic. If the exact product is discontinued or the color blend is no longer available, the replacement should match the current equivalent tier. Grand Manor and Presidential Shake replacements carry premium material costs that should be reflected in the estimate from the start, not left as a supplement. CertainTeed's Integrity Roof System label, found in the attic on some installations, can confirm the product line and installation date, which is useful for adjusters verifying roof age.
